Product Description
The 3525 uses the most reliable and accurate style of photoelectric sensing which is the through beam sensor. The sensor comes with an emitter and a receiver. The emitter provides a constant invisible IR (infrared) beam of light to the receiver and detection occurs when an object passing between the two breaks the beam. The photo detection range of the 3525 is up to 10 meters.
A very familiar application of a through beam photoelectric sensor can be found is right in your home. Quite often, a garage door opener has a through beam photoelectric sensor mounted near the floor, across the width of the door. This sensor is making sure nothing is in the path of the door when it is closing.

Operation

The Phidgets Digital Input is "off" when the receiver receives the transmitter signal (i.e. there are no objects between the transmitter and the receiver); the Digital Input is "on" when the beam is broken by the presence of an object.

Emitter

You need to provide 12VDC to the Transmitter. The brown wire is +V and the blue wire is GND.

The Receiver connects to a Digital Input on any of the following products:

This is how you connect the 3525 Receiver to a Phidget board that does not have 12V power such as the 1018, 1012, 1202, and 1203 using our 12VDC Power Supply:
  • Connect the +12 wire from the Power Supply (that's the one with the white line) to the 3525 Brown wire.
  • Connect the 3525 Black wire to a Digital Input on the 1018.
  • Connect the Power supply Ground Wire and the 3525 Blue wire to the Digital Input Ground connector on the 1018.
Connection
Note:
When the 3525 Receiver is connected to a 1012, it will behave as a Normally Close (NC) sensor instead of Normally Open (NO).
For boards that have power input, if the supplied power is within 12-24VDC, the +V line can be connected to the terminal block, powering the sensor from the Phidget. The 1019, 1070, 1060 and 1063 all accept external power.
